StockX – the New York Stock Exchange for all you sneakerheads. The website that every one of you has probably bookmarked and scroll through mindlessly at 2 am to just feel what it would be like to get a pair of those sneakers that you have been desperate for. You think to yourself, maybe a $1000 does justify the purchase of this item? And as soon as you’re about to place your bid, you remember all those Reddit and Instagram posts about how StockX sells fake sneakers.

StockX Fake Sneakers Scam

One Reddit user, u/sorasong, uploaded a post complaining that he was sold a pair of fake Jordan 1 Retro Satin through StockX. He states that StockX hasn’t refunded him as of yet and that their customer service hasn’t been responding to him. He was pretty pissed off, to say the least. Take a look at the pictures below to see what he received in his package after placing the bids for the Jordan 1.

Another Reddit user, u/Rajator1383, theorizes that StockX systematically sells fake sneakers because according to him:

“… I knew something was fishy when my bid was accepted in less than one minute, and then arrived at Stockx in less than 18 hours and was shipped to me that same day. The shoes arrived with numerous obvious flaws and damage. Now they won’t take them back.”

This is only a couple of examples of complaints that you can find easily on the internet by just typing in StockX Fake on Google (that’s what we did).

StockX’s Verification Test for Spotting Fakes

But it doesn’t answer the question of whether StockX sells fake sneakers?

After all, StockX is a billion-dollar company with numerous wealthy and popular investors such as Eminem and Mark Wahlberg, and if StockX did have an actual problem with selling fakes, we would have more concrete evidence from users.

In order to evaluate whether or not it really is simple and even possible to sell fakes on StockX, a couple of popular sneaker reviewers on Youtube tried to sell fake sneakers on StockX. Here are the links to their videos – Ari Cagan and TomStefaniuk.

Both of them purchased High-Quality Fake Sneakers from third-party websites and then essentially sold it to themselves on StockX. Once they shipped them to the verification center of StockX, they received an email from StockX 3-4 days later informing them that their sneakers didn’t pass the verification test and were thus not being delivered to their destination.

Obviously, only these 2 individuals experience isn’t enough to say for sure that StockX does not sell fake sneakers but it does shine a light on the fact that StockX has a professional team that verifies each and every sneaker. Because if you see the videos you will be able to see the quality of these fakes and how they could pass as originals if looked at from a blind eye.

Why StockX Does Not Sell Fake Sneakers?

I’m not saying that StockX’s verification team is right all the time, after all, they must be checking thousands of sneakers every day, and sometimes they might be having a bad day and let through a couple of fakes. Albeit, the buyer doesn’t deserve this – StockX does get it right most of the time. We’re not sponsored by StockX and thus this isn’t a biased review but a company the size of StockX, a market leader, can’t afford to deal in fakes because their entire value is dependent on being an authentic marketplace. Therefore, it isn’t in StockX’s interest to sell you fakes.

Moreover, currently, StockX is the only website where you’re getting actual value in terms of prices. We all remember how resellers on E-Bay were known for scamming buyers with outrageous prices and therefore it led to the demise of their sneaker reselling community.

Lastly, StockX isn’t perfect. But you don’t see posts of people successfully receiving originals from StockX and that’s because there’s no hype in that. Only when the word Fake is mentioned with StockX, the post travels up your newsfeed. Therefore, it’s safe to say that 9 times out of 10, StockX gets it absolutely right.
