Before we take a detailed look at the highly anticipated Nike Dunk Low “UNLV”, let me walk you through this iconic sneaker’s history!

Nike Dunk Low – From Basketball to Skateboarding

Peter Moor, who also designed other popular Nike sneakers such as the Air Jordan 1 and the Terminator, took inspiration from those sneakers and came up with the Nike Dunk.

Initially, they only wanted the Dunk to be a basketball sneaker with no idea of an entirely new untapped market with a lot of potentials.

The realization came when they made too many of the Air Jordan 1s which started sitting on shelves collecting dust. Due to lack of demand, it saw various price cuts that attracted a different consumer base.

Skateboarders that wanted a low-cost sneaker with good traction and ankle support, saw the Air Jordan as the perfect sneaker and started to adopt it as their primary skateboarding shoes.

The Nike Dunk launched in 1985 with a more advanced design than its predecessors. It came at an ideal time and reinvigorated basketball culture for many. The SB dunk, however, was officially released in 2002 and was directly inspired by it.

We’ve seen multiple Nike Dunks Lows in 2020 such as the Dunk Low Lemon Wash and the Dunk Low CPFM which were both unconventional and exciting new colorways that did tremendously well on primary and reseller’s markets.

Starting off this year, Nike is bringing back a few classic colorways which I’m assuming will be warmly welcomed by fans. The Nike Dunk Low “UNLV”, for example, is inspired by Nike’s original College Color’s Program.

For those that don’t know, Nike’s college colors program is what started and popularized the Nike Dunk. This program was called “Be True to Your School” and it couldn’t have come at a better time than in the 1980s.

The Nike Dunks were released in 1985 in a few college-inspired colors for basketball teams that were under Nike. These were released during a time of rising popularity of college basketball and worldwide superstars such as Michael Jordan that reinforced the hype for these sneakers.

Although the shoes were inspired by other older sneakers such as Air Force 1s, they released in much more vibrant colorways. People also had a choice to choose from colors that represented their university, making them even more sought after. A total of 7 different colleges were represented.

The Nike Dunk Low “UNLV” takes inspiration from one of these original colorways and is releasing as part of a partnership with the University of Nevada.

To estimate the expected resale value for this new Dunk Low, let’s head over to StockX.

Off-White Nike Dunk Low University Red

StockX

Retail Price: $170

Peak Resell: $1,015

Release Date: 12/20/2019

Colorway: UNIVERSITY RED

The Off-White Nike Dunk Low University Red features almost an identical color tone to the Nike Dunk Low “UNLV”. That’s because these sneakers are Virgil Abloh’s take on the OG University Red Nike Dunk colorway.

These highly sought after sneakers feature wolf grey leather underlays and bright University Red overlays. The unique feature about this Dunk low is the secondary red lacing system that crisscrosses its way over the primary laces. Typical Off-White texts on the sides, crisp white midsoles, and red outsoles complete the design.

On StockX, these sneakers can cost you an average of $550 which is a gross profit of over $380 per pair. They’ve also been sold for a whopping $1,015 which the normal “UNLV” colorway is unlikely to match.

Nike Dunk Low SP Syracuse

StockX

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $800

Release Date: 03/14/2020

Colorway: WHITE/ORANGE

The Nike Dunk Low SP and Syracuse released earlier this year in celebration of Nike Dunk’s 35th anniversary. This sneaker debuted during Nike’s College Colors program in 1985 which released sneakers in school-themed colorways for 12 specific basketball programs.

These kicks feature clean white leather underlays with orange overlays that cover the toe regions, eye stays, Swooshes, and rears. White tongues with orange Nike branding, orange heel tabs, white midsoles, and orange outsoles complete the look.

On StockX, the average selling price is currently around $340 per pair. That’s a decent $240 average gross profit while resale prices have even as high as $700.

The Nike Dunk Low “UNLV” likely won’t have profits as high but still decent enough that they should be on your must-cop list for this month.

Nike Dunk Low University Red (2020)

Retail Price: $100

Peak Resell: $800

Release Date: 07/01/2020

Colorway: WHITE/UNIVERSITY RED

The Nike Dunk Low University Red is also inspired by the College Color’s Program as this sneaker represents St.Johns with its clean white underlays and vibrant red overlays.

University Red is featured on the ‘Swooshes’, laces, eye stays, rears, and heel tabs. Meanwhile, a white midsole and red outsole complete the look.

On StockX, the average selling price is $370 which is a gross profit of $270 per pair. I believe the Nike Dunk Low “UNLV” will have a slightly lower resale value.

Retail Price: $100

Estimated Resell: $200+

Release Date: January/14/2021

Colorway: University Red/Wolf Grey

Nike brings back the popular “UNLV” colorway, however, this time it’s in the arguably more popular low-top variant. This colorway was also first released as part of Nike’s “Be True To Your School” pack.

This UNLV Dunk Low represents the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with similarly themed color tones. The base of the sneakers is Wolf Grey leather which appears on the side panels, perforated toe boxes, and rears.

This dark grey color also makes its way up the throat and onto the tongues that are contrasted by University Red “Nike” branding. Grey “Nike” embroidery is contrasted by red heel tabs while on the insides, grey insoles are contrasted by orange Nike branding.

A clean white midsole and University Red outsole complete the iconic look that’s likely going to be remembered for decades.

Estimated Resell Value

It won’t take a mystic to tell you that these sneakers will likely sell out instantly. The sad part is that they’ll also be almost impossible to get, however, there is a way to drastically improve your chances. Join our Winner’s Circle for valuable insider knowledge to help you cop almost any sneaker!

Using my estimated resell value of at least $300, expect gross profits of around $200 after the release date. The Nike Dunk Low “Coast” is already selling for over $500 so don’t be surprised if the UNLVs sell for even more before the release date.

Nike Dunk Low “UNLV”| Where to Buy

You can buy these sneakers at select retailers and Nike SNKRS on January 14th. For men, the retail price is set at $100, meanwhile, they’ll also be releasing in grade school sizes.

You can, however, buy them earlier on reseller markets such as StockX for resale prices.
