06/18/2020 ~ Haider Tahir

Whilst the NBA may or may not be continuing its season, we do have some news coming from one of the greatest players to have ever graced the courts. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’m talking about none other than King AKA LeBron James. Nike is set to release the Lebron 7 “MVP” on the 26th of June for a retail price of $200.

This is a re-release of the 2010 Lebron 7 MVP which was created in honor of LeBron winning his second straight NBA MVP award. While fans were distressed when he left the Cavaliers for Miami, that didn’t stop them from buying the MVP.

It’s been 10 years since the release of MVP and LeBron has only gone and won 3 championships and 2 more MVP awards. It’s safe to say that the MVP of 2010 is an MVP in 2020. And to commemorate this, Nike is set to re-release the sneaker.

In this article, we’ll see how the 2010 Lebron 7 MVP along with other Lebron 7s performed in order to predict the resale value of the 2020 Lebron 7 MVP.

Nike LeBron 7 PS MVP (2010)

Released in 2010 for a retail price of $160, this iconic sneaker featured a crimson, white, and grey colorway. Nike has done a fantastic job on this sneaker. Not only was it released to celebrate an important moment in LeBron’s career but the aesthetics of the sneaker are so well-designed that you just want to want it.

Details such as an embroidered MVP on the lateral heels make the sneaker an all-around superstar like its namesake.

Now getting to the most important factor, the resale performance. On StockX, there have been a total of 7 resales with the peak price being $1300 and the lowest price being $500. Now with a retail price of $160, both of these prices meant major profits for the sellers.

Even in 2020, ever since the news of the re-release of the MVP, the 2010 MVP has been gaining traction. Sales. The latest sales data shows that on June 15th the sneaker was resold for $600. However, in my opinion, there’s no point in purchasing the original at this point when all the attention will be on the 2020 version.

Nike LeBron 7 MVP (2020)

Releasing for a steep $200 on the 26th of June, the 2020 MVP is almost a mirror reflection of the 2010 MVP. Taking a first look at the sneaker and it will remind you of a letter jacket with its bright crimson color used on the laces, swoosh, and on the heel overlays.

The bright crimson is contrasted with grey and white uppers. The iconic Air Max unit on the midsole is done in a vibrant red color which brings together the shoe.

Like the original, the 2020 MVP is not without the iconic details as well. On the lateral heels, we see an embroidered graphic MVP right where the swoosh ends. On the heels we see “Witness” and “History” embroidered.

The dates of the first two times that James became an MVP are imprinted on the inner soles of the heel whilst the name Lebron James is imprinted on the lace of the shoe. The toe bumpers have imprinted “Twenty” and “Three” which complete the sneaker.

Buying this sneaker must truly feel like you’re owning a part of history. And who doesn’t want to pay a premium for a piece of history right?

Resale Value

If you have made it this far, then I congratulate you for actually putting in the time and effort to understand the context of what I’m about to analyze. See, the sneakers do not have any intrinsic value.

Its resale value is derived completely from what you and I believe it to be. If we think that a sneaker is a brick, then that’s what the wider community would most likely believe too. And that’s how the entire game goes around.

Looking at the Ask data on StockX for the 2020 Lebron 7 MVP, all the pairs have an Ask price of $550. And the Bids range from $400-$200. With a retail price of $200, sellers are looking for a higher premium.

Therefore, we feel that the Lebron 7 MVP 2020 will have an average resale value in the price range of $500-$600.
