The N.354 and The Type Inspiration
Nike’s N.354 series has evolved dramatically throughout the last year, the sub-imprint starting simple by way of deconstructed motifs. The N.354 line captures the innovative nature of Nike by creating a place to test unexpected ideas. Denoted by the “-Type” in the name of each style, the N.354 line from NSW continues the exploration with this Zoom-Type as an expression of design innovation.
But now, after expanding into other noteworthy silhouettes, they’ve turned their Type series into a seeming homage to brutalist design. The now revealed Zoom Type — which effectively plays off the Daybreak before it — seems to forgo the unrefined for an upper cut clean and constructed ostensibly of one suede panel. Lines at the forefoot, profile, and heel simulate paneling while printed swooshes and toe box perforations create texture through different means. Laces then dye in black and loop through the single set of synthetic overlays, complementing that of the performance tread whose tooling seems to borrow from two different molds. Exposed Zoom Air pods in the forefoot and a TPU plate running the length of the midsole experiment with technology, while the hand of the designer is seen in smaller details like the logo treatment, targeted perforation for breathability and exposed stitching for support.
Grab an official look at these right here and expect to find them at Nike.com and select retailers on June 5th.
Nike’s Tech and Aesthetic
It’s no secret that Nike has been on the frontline in terms of footwear technology and innovation. The basketball, running, football, and other divisions of Nike have had a strong showing when it comes to their footwear. For example, having the runner with the fastest recorded marathon time clocking it in a new Nike silhouette! Weather it has been exposed air bubbles, strong yet lightweight materials, legendary movie props, or self lacing shoes; the Swoosh has always been ahead of the curve.
We’ve always seen shoes like the Air Mags floating around in the ether. But Nike has put in some serious work to make sneakers like that a reality. Of recent, we’ve seen the Adapt technology hit a few different avenues of recent. Shoes like the Adapt Automax, Adapt Huarache, and Adapt BB have been tremendous successes. This Zoom Type isn’t as involved as the aforementioned, but I believe it gives off that certain futuristic look. I commend Nike for giving consumers this aesthetic for such a good $130 price point. We all hope it continues.
Here’s a sneaker that hasn’t had much buzz at all. It’s truly flown under the radar for most, especially considering some of the other heat that’s releasing all around us.
While this isn’t an elusive SNKRS drop, it doesn’t seem like these Zoom Types are getting a huge release to all your typical mall stores – so this would indicate a more limited amount of stock. With that being said I believe there’s money in flipping them.
Combined between early pairs of this “Summit White” color way and the “Menta”, the very minuscule number of sales sold for a good chunk over retail. While it’s a small sample size, we would expect this trend to continue. The speculation now is that the Zoom Type should produce somewhere in the $50+ profit from reselling.
