The 6 God and the holy kicks, it seems all too appropriate.

The Hotline Bling rapper flexed the Nike Air Max 97 “Holy Water” on his Instagram story, thus flaunting the $1,000 pair of shoes and blessing all his followers.

A DETAILED LOOK: Air Max 97 MSCHF x INRI Jesus Shoes

Released on October 8th, the sneaker embodies the classic Nike Air 97 silhouette—but with a pious upgrade.

The creative label MSCHF detailed the sneaker to symbolize the miracle of Jesus walking on water via Matthew 14:25.

In addition, “Matthew 14:25” is inscribed within the toe box to reference the passage in the bible when Jesus executed such a feat.

The shoe is adorned with a steel crucifix in the laces with red insoles that have been scented with Frankincense. Thus, a nod to the biblical references to The Vatican, known for their affection for red shoes and abstract jewels.

Furthermore, the sneaker’s colorway represents a muted water blue on its midsole, the Nike Swoosh on its quarter panel, and a paint-white hue throughout the sneaker.

To enhance the symbolism, “Iesus Nazaraeus Rex ludaeorum”, translating to “Jesus Nazarene, King of Jews”, is stitched on the rear of the sneaker with the acronyms INRI.

In case you didn’t know, Roman soldiers had pinned this above Jesus as the tragedy occurred on the cross.

Rounding out the last detail, but is absolutely the most significant, is that the Nike Air Max 97 iteration includes 60cc of holy water from the River Jordan.

Thus, someone wearing the sneaker is literally walking on water.

The sneaker retailed for $1425, and as most hyped sneakers do, they sold out instantly. Drake, however, managed to grab a pair.

DRAKE INFLUENCE

As mentioned earlier, arguably the hottest rapper in the game was found rocking the “holier than thou” sneakers as per his Instagram story.

Drake is known for his preference for “checks over stripes.”

Being that it’s what Drake likes, he was seen rocking these sneakers. As you would guess, the price of the sneakers skyrocketed immediately afterward.

On the resale market giant Stockx, the sneaker is now floating around an ungodly—as in outrageous—price of $4,000!

DRAKE COLLABS

You’ve been hiding under a rock if you didn’t know Drake is a colossal figure in the rapping genre of music, however, he is also a sneaker enthusiast.

Insomuch that he has various collaborations with Jordan Brand with his OVO fashion label.

Drake has teamed up with various models like the Air Jordan 8, Air Jordan 10, and Air Jordan 12. This year he teamed up with Jordan Brand to release one of the more popular models—the Air Jordan 4.

This specific pair of sneakers was a nod to the NBA team of Toronto. In case you don’t keep up with the NBA, the Toronto Raptors won their franchise-first championship this year.

Being that Drake represents Toronto—and Canada as a whole—it was only opportunistic for himself and Jordan brand to quickly design the ever-popular Jordan 4 in the Toronto Raptors purple and red colorway.

Also, the sneaker sold out instantly.

Drake’s collaboration with Jordan Brand produced the “OVO” Air Jordan 10s, in a flashy all-gold colorway.

Did I say colorway? These pairs actually are made up of real gold, however, you can’t get these pairs.

There is only one, and it’s owned only by October’s Very Own.

Another OVO and Jordan Brand partnership results in a classic Air Jordan XII, which boasts an all-white colorway with gold hints on the Jumpman.

Drake has influenced price jumps on other sneakers as well. Here, we see courtside Drake rocking a pair of an already hype sneaker, the Travis Scott Air Force 1.

OTHER ARTISTS INFLUENCE ON RESALE VALUE

Drake isn’t the only public figure that can push the needle of various sneakers in the resale market. Is it safe to say an artist can push the market of his own line?

Travis Scott did.

In the year of 2019 thus far, Travis Scott has released three signature shoes with his Jordan Brand collaboration.

His contribution with the Jordan 1 Low still boasts an extremely high resale price.

If you look on the graph, you’ll see a brief jump around August 19th after Travis himself posted on his Instagram story verifying his fans that the Travis Jordan 1 lows were not going to be releasing again.

This is a direct result of how hip-hop influencers—and public figures alike—can shift the market.

RESALE VALUE OF HOLY WATERS

The Air Max 97 MSCHF INRI Jesus are still doing extremely well in the resale market and if you were lucky enough to grab a pair, you could have not only made a huge sum of money on a quick-flip but even more after Drake’s post.

Shoe collaborations with public figures are not uncommon in the sneaker community, but when someone with Drake’s status promotes such a sneaker, it will always bode well.
