You’d be forgiven as a sneaker-head to not know much about this high end luxury brand. They’ve only done one collaboration with Adidas in 2019 which was super hyped and very profitable.

Prada however, is a brand with a lot of History which made its way as a top level designer after being in the game for a century. Ultimately, becoming one of the most iconic fashion brands in history today.

It all started in 1913 in Milan Italy, founded by 2 brothers, Mario & Martino Prada. They opened up in a highly prestigious area selling leather bags and other travelling accessories.

Their popularity catapulted when they were given the honor of being the official suppliers of the Royal House of Italy. This honor is what gave Prada that “Royal” touch.

Interestingly enough, because of the very common patriarchal norms during those times, Mario Prada didn’t want women in his family working outside of their homes.

His son however showed no interest, leaving his daughter Luisa Prada to take over. She ran the business successfully for over 20 years.

After 1974, Luisa’s daughter joined the business and carried on the tradition. They became one of the most respected brands due to their high quality fabrics and color selections.

Today, they house various small businesses such as Miu Miu, Car Shoe and several others. They’ve also made a successful sportswear line for both men and women. Just recently collaborating with Adidas, releasing a hyped bag and sneaker bundle.

Prada x Adidas

This joint project was teased by the duo for a long time. The hype was unreal and the production quantity, super limited to only 700 units.

The sneaker and the bag however, came in a rather expensive bundle for $3,170. It had sneaker-heads and Prada fanatics wishing to snatch a pair but they sold out extremely fast. Basically your chances of copping one was equivalent to winning the lottery.

The bundle came with an Adidas Superstar in an all white colorway. It was however, made by Prada in Italy with their high quality leather, hand crafted to perfection.

It came in unisex sizing with Prada branding on the tongue and sides. It came with Prada’s high quality bowling bag tote, also in an all-white leather. Combining Prada’s iconic color tone and style with Adidas’s functionality.

I made this comparison due to the fact both releases are collaborations between high end luxury brands and sportswear giants. Both are also extremely limited with the Air Jordan 1 Dior being limited to 8,500 pairs.

Nike made history with these super clean kicks. They retailed for a sky high price tag of $2000 however, extremely lucrative for those who managed to snatch a pair.

They feature a white and grey leather upper made up of the finest materials. It also has a unique looking Dior Monogram “Swoosh”, light blue out-soles and a Dior branding on the tongue.

The resale for these are insane. According to StockX, the highest bids are over $20,000. The Prada x Adidas Superstar White, Black & Silver probably won’t do half as well but it’s important to note how well luxury fashion brand collaborations can do on the resale market.

Prada Neoprene White

Retail Price: $750

Peak Resell: $226

Colorway: White

These sneakers are part of Prada’s sports-wear lineup. They feature an all-white neoprene upper with black laces, collar and red hits on the tongue. A white mid-sole and black out-sole finishes off the design.

Interestingly enough, they come with a super high price tag but very poor resale. The only time it’s been sold on StockX is for $226. This is probably due to low demand and high production quantity as whoever wants one can get one.

Thus concluding that Prada shoes alone are not worth the cop for resale in most cases.

Adidas Superstar Prada White (Without bowling bag)

Retail Price: N/A (Not Sold Separately)

Peak Resell: $3,784

Release Date: 12/04/2019

Colorway: White/Black

This was Adidas and Prada’s first collaboration that mustered up a lot of hype in 2019. It came with a Bowling bag as mentioned above so a retail price for the sneaker is not available.

They come with a high quality full grain leather upper with white lateral Adidas stripes along with “Prada” branding. Branding on the tongue and “Adidas” branding on the back all come in black, providing some contrast to the otherwise all-white sneaker.

The resale, as expected, is very good. The average selling price is $1,697 while the peak resale prices are over $3,500 according to StockX.

Since the sneaker is most similar to the Prada x Adidas Superstar White, Black & Silver. It gives us an idea on what to expect from their latest lineup.

Prada x Adidas Superstar (Core White, Core Black, Metallic Silver)

Estimated Resell: $700

Colorway: Core White/Core Black/Metallic Silver

To end the month off with a bang, Prada and Adidas are returning with 3 new colorways. Initially set to release in March, these too have seen a few delays. The Prada x Adidas Superstar White, Black & silver will now be released on the 8^th of September.

The first colorway is most similar to the aforementioned bowling bag & sneaker bundle. It sports an all grain leather upper and the Adidas original shell toe. Black lateral stripes, “Prada” branding and a black collar provide contrast. A white sole finishes off he design.

The black sneaker features an all grain upper as well, this time in black. Apart from a white “Prada” branding on the side and tongue and “Adidas” on tongue and rear. It’s basically a fully blacked out Superstar.

Lastly and my personal pick is the Metallic silver colorway. It comes in a similar leather material, this time in a shiny silver finish. White lateral stripes, white rear heel and a white sole finishes off the design.

Estimated Resell

There’s not much information to go by however, if the last colorway is any indication. I have high expectations from these sneakers and expect a resale price of over $700.

Currently there are no asks or realistic bids on StockX for the black or silver colorway. The last sale for the Core white on the other hand, is already pretty high at $934. A highest bid of $1,027 has also been made for a size 9.

To earn your money back after a standard US tax rate and service fee, you’ll need to sell for at least $537. Thus by using my estimated resale price, I expect profits of around $160 which is pretty good.

It all however, depends on how limited these are. Sources state they won’t be as limited as the first sneaker bundle which is why I expect a lower resale value than the previous release.
