I’ll start off today with some good news and some bad news. The good news is the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red is re-releasing soon.

The bad news, well the release date has been postponed from the 28th of March to April 25th. I know, sad.

Likely due to the recent pandemic, a lot of Nike stores have closed down temporary, pushing back many other releases as well.

Hopefully the situation gets resolved soon but until then, check out our blog for more interesting content.

History

Air Jordan 5 Fire Red History

It started in 1990 when Tinker Hatfield came up with the genius idea to design a sneaker inspired by a fighter jet. The flames on the side were inspired by the Marine spitfire WW2 fighter jet.

Tinker also used Marty Macfly’s shoes from “Back to the future” as inspiration. The Air Jordan 5 was the first sneaker to have a Foam upper which was translucent.

The pair also featured a 3M reflective along with the Jordan logo on it. In 1990, when the pair was first introduced in 4 colorways, only 100 were made of each with a price tag of $125.

When they were re-released, the price was set at $120 and also limited so it was inevitable. Over time they gained value and turned golden.

Today these are one of the most sought after sneakers. A pair of which you will definitely find in the collection of most major sneaker-heads.

The original will obviously be worth thousands of dollars, but let’s see how re-releases did on the market.

Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red (2000)

Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red 2000

Retail Price: $120

Peak Resell: $580

Release Date: 01/01/2000

COLORWAY: Fire-Red/White

The second time the pair released they were a sight for sore eyes. Those who missed out on the first release could finally get their hands on them years later.

They did decent on the resale market as well. According to StockX, their trade range is between $288-$462 with the average resale price being $312.

You may have made a potential $460 in pure profits per pair or more while the average profit is $192.

That’s not bad however, these are pretty close to the original versions so that’s what you’d expect. Moving on.

Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red (2006)

Retail Price: $160

Peak Resell: $304

Release Date: 12/16/2006

The 2006 rendition of the Air Jordan 5 Retro fire red has a mediocre run on the resale market. According to StockX, the trade range is between $170-$203. That’s an average price of $204.

You may have scored an average profit of $42 or a potential profit of $144. Over all it’s mediocre, nothing special here.

The pair released yet again in 2008, this time with a price tag of $155.

According to StockX, the trade range is between $211-$279 with an average selling price of $228.

That may have scored you an average profit of $73 and a peak potential profit of $245. That’s not so bad especially if you managed to cop a bunch of pairs.

The most profitable sizes are 9 and 10.5.

Jordan 5 Retro Low Fire Red (2016)

One of the more recent Air Jordan 5 Fire Red variants to drop was the “low fire” for $175.

The trade range for these is $179-$221 with the average price being $174.This may have earned you an average loss of $1.

That’s quite bad however, the market has recovered for this sneaker recently. The peak potential profit is also $250 which is decent.

Retail Price (Adult): $200

Peak Resell: $359

Release Date: 04/25/2020

COLORWAY: Black-Metallic/Fire-Red

The sad part about the delay is that they were supposed to drop on the 28th of march on the 30th anniversary of the Jordan 5 silhouette. However, there’s more to that date than just that.

This also marks the date Michael Jordan scored 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. That makes it very important to many sneaker collectors.

The model itself is a good rendition, quality wise. The upper seems to be a good quality white synthetic leather along with a thin leather collar.  The toe panel is different as well with a shorter version than the OG.

You get flat white laces as well as a plastic mash tongue. The 3M tongue is grey with red “Jump Man” logo embroidery on it.

The sock liner is incredibly well padded and on the back of the tongue you have the Air Jordan tag stitched upside down.

The in-sole comes in black while the rear also features in red the “Nike Air” branding.

Resale Value

Even though these are an original silhouette and colorway, Nike tends to milk these a lot. You’ve seen the above mentioned variants and well these may be going down a similar road of mediocrity.

According to StockX, the trade range is between $260-$290 while with the average price being $301.

That may earn you an average profit of $101 and a peak potential profit of $159. That’s not too bad if you managed to cop pairs early however, not great either.

If you do go for these sneakers, go for sizes 7, 11, 12 and 13 as they seem to be most profitable.

On a side note, the recent pandemic may have a role in less than average re-sale value. Sneakers are being sold for less due to the lack of international sales and that’s driving down prices.

How to Cop

Finding these shouldn’t be hard as Nike is known to make many pairs of the original silhouettes. However, they will be sold out eventually so if you want one, get them ASAP.

The release date is said to be 25th April however there are no promises. Make sure to stay updated so you don’t miss out.

You can find them on the Nike SNKRS application and at select retailers. They will also be sold on re-seller websites like StockX and GOAT.
