The Air Jordan 7 Retro Flint originally released in 2006 and returns for the first time this April. These sneakers likely hold a decent amount of resale value but before we take a detailed look, let me walk you through this 29-year-old silhouette’s history!

Skip to the conclusion for those in a hurry.

Air Jordan 7 | A Brief History

Jordan.com

The AJVII was designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield, a renowned corporate architect turned designer who also created all other Jordan sneakers from the AJII through the Air Jordan XV.

Hatfield created the Jordan 7 by taking inspiration from the Air Huarache. Another cult favorite among Nike’s portfolio from the ‘90s.

The Huarache’s neoprene bootie was adopted into the Air Jordan 7, a technology that really was ahead of its time and is still used today. Giving the sneakers a lighter and more comfortable feel.

As for the aesthetics, the upper was fairly consistent with Jordan Brand’s design elements with the exception of African Tribal patterns, something Hatfield grew a liking to prior to designing the AJ7.

Although released in 1992, Jordan Brand became an independent subsidiary in 1997, an achievement that was definitely sped up with the help of the Air Jordan 7.

As Hatfield wanted to forego any external Nike branding with MJ’s 7th signature sneaker, this enabled Jordan sneakers to be recognized independently. Allowing the Jump-Man to start standing on its own two feet.

Michael’s 7th signature sneaker has also been a part of one of his greatest victories. From his famous six first-half three-pointers in the 1992 NBA finals to the beginning of the 1992-1993 Season, Michael Jordan was wearing the Air Jordan 7.

Although there’s a good history behind this silhouette, are they still a good investment in 2021?

Air Jordan 7 | Resale In 2021

From GOAT

Although the Hype Master Playbook gave it a relatively average score prior to 2020, recently the Air Jordan 7s have risen in value and are actually decent cops with good returns.

Not to mention that they’re now also fast-moving sneakers!

Previously, you’d be lucky to even break even had you invested in most Air Jordan 7s. After 2020, however, most Jordan Brand sneakers have been selling out.

Studies have shown the Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance” documentary has definitely had an impact on Air Jordan shoes. Almost all featured sneakers have shown an upward trend in value on reseller’s websites.

Since the AJ7 was featured on multiple occasions, it comes as no surprise that they are no exceptions.

To estimate resale for the Air Jordan 7 Retro Flint, let’s check out a few similar sneakers on the resale markets.

Air Jordan 7 Retro “Pure Platinum”

GOAT

Retail Price: $190

Peak Resell: $380

Release Date: 06/03/2017

Colorway: WHITE/METALLIC SILVER-PURE PLATINUM

The Air Jordan 7 Pure Platinum (AKA Pure Money) dropped in 2017 and featured a subtle color-blocking shrouded in white and grey leather.

Grey perforated underlays cover the side panels including the Jump-Man stamp and toe boxes. Grey throats lead up to a pair of grey tongues that are embossed with “Jordan” and “Air” branding.

Grey heel pulls embossed with a grey “23”, white midsoles, and grey/white outsoles complete the design.

These sneakers are currently selling for an average price of $220 which is a $30 gross profit. Although they’ve even been sold for as high as $380, resellers have only been making lunch money with these kicks.

Air Jordan 7 “Greater China”

GOAT

Retail Price: $190

Peak Resell: $600

Release Date: 09/05/2020

Colorway: WHITE/CHILE RED-BLACK-METALLIC GOLD

This vibrant Air Jordan 7 pays homage to Chinese culture with black underlays and cropped graphics of “Lung”. A legendary Chinese dragon that’s ubiquitously depicted as a serpent-like creature with 4 legs.

Black tongues with Chinese texts and white/Chile-Red leather overlays provide contrast. Meanwhile, white midsoles with red and golden accents that sit atop black midsoles complete the design.

Although they’ve been sold for as high as $600, resale for these sneakers is currently much lower. The average selling price for the larger sizes is around $240.

Air Jordan 7 “Flint” (2006)

GOAT

Retail Price: $135

Peak Resell: $590

Release Date: 04/22/2006

Colorway: WHITE/VARSITY PURPLE-FLINT GREY

The Jordan 7 “Flint” colorway first dropped in 2006 as a brand new addition.

Grey underlays with side perforations are contrasted by a purple Jump-Man on the collars. Meanwhile, clean white leather overlays provide contrast on the rest of the upper. Grey tongues, white midsoles, and dotted grey outsoles complete the design.

Since this is an original colorway, the Air Jordan 7 Flint is still highly sought-after and valuable. The average selling price for these shoes is over $350 on reseller’s websites.

The Air Jordan 7 Retro Flint 2021 will likely have a lower resale value since renditions typically aren’t as valuable as the originals.

Air Jordan 7 Retro Flint | A Detailed Look

Retail Price: $190

Estimated Resell: $260

Release Date: May 8th/2021

Colorway: WHITE/FLINT GREY-BLACK-VARSITY PURPLE

Although the color tones for this rendition of the AJ7 “Flint” stay true to the originals from 2006, the construction, on the other hand, receives a modern refresh.

Uppers consist of grey suede underlays with perforations on the sides for breathability that also appears on the collars surrounding the contrasting purple Jump-Man logo.

Surrounding the suede is crisp white tumbled leather, overlaid in an asymmetrical fashion. Grey throats are contrasted by clean white laces, both of which sit underneath dark grey tongues with merged “JORDAN” and “AIR” branding done up in Varsity Purple hues.

An embossed purple “23” on the heels, white midsoles, and spotted dark outsoles finish off the design.

How to Buy For Retail

You can buy this Air Jordan 7 at select Jordan Brand stockists and Nike SNKRS on May 8th in full family sizing. The retail price for men’s sizes is set at $190.

Estimated Resale Value

Although the Air Jordan 7s still aren’t necessarily the most profitable sneakers out there, I still expect this classic colorway to sell out with potential for small profits.

Using my estimated resale value of $260, expect gross profits of $70 and up for the larger sizes. According to our Hype Meter, that’s a “Profit”.
