Around the world, a total of $20 billion shoes were sold in 2019 alone. To put that in perspective, that’s almost an entire closet full of shoes for every person on the planet.
Unsurprisingly so, a lot of those sneakers aren’t discarded properly and end up in vulnerable places such as the oceans. BBC has reported hundreds of Nike sneakers washing ashore on the beaches of the Atlantic islands and many other places.
Sadly, plastic is not the only problem. The stitches and glues used also harm the environment and are a pain to get rid of. Companies such as Parley and Nike have started to take serious measures to counter these problems.
Nike Move To Zero| Space Hippie
Nike isn’t new to pushing environmental sustainability efforts at all. They’ve been doing it for a long time, as is proven with their Flyknit sneakers. The Nike Flyknit sneakers such as the VaporMax use far less materials and leave a much smaller carbon foot print on the planet.
In 2013, they’ve also revealed an internal analysis showing a reduction in carbon emissions. It was only a tiny 3% but I suppose it’s good marketing as well. Recently however, they’ve been pushing the boundaries with the space hippie lineup.
The Space Hippie sneakers are made up of over 50% recycled material in weight. That includes 90% recycled polyester which is more than what any other sneaker manufacturer does.
The Nike Space Hippie 01 lineup has especially been highly sought after with fast sell outs and high resale prices. Other sneakers such as the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom Space Hippie have also been profitable but the Space Hippie 01 has one of the best profit margins.

Even though the Nike Space Hippie 02 Vast Grey Hyper Crimson is one of the least hyped, these kicks still sell!
Compared to the 01, this sneaker has a more elevated silhouette with a slip-on design instead of a lacing system. It comes in a vast grey upper with a crimson stitched ‘Swoosh’ and a white crater foam sole.

The Nike Space Hippie 01 Vast Grey Hyper Crimson comes in a typical low-top running sneaker silhouette. With the lowest price of $130, this was also one of the most anticipated.
A vast grey upper with a stitched crimson ‘swoosh’ is the only deviation from the latest Nike Space Hippie 01 Black Wheat. The typical be-speckled white crater foam sole finishes off the design.
This Space Hippie 01 has great resale value, as it should, considering how hard it was to cop them for retail. The average selling price is $260 which is an average gross profit of $130. At peak resale prices, profits are as high as $620.
The Nike Space Hippie 01 Black Copper or ‘Wheat’ may not be as hyped since this was the first colorway ever. Resale prices however, may be close.
Nike Space Hippie 01 Grey Volt

The Nike Space Hippie 01 Grey Volt is almost identical to its Hyper Crimson counterpart with the exception of a lighter grey upper and volt ‘Swoosh’. A multi-colored/white crater foam sole completes the design.
The average selling price on StockX is $190 which is an average gross profit of $60. At peak resale prices, gross profits are as high as $220. I believe resale isn’t higher because of how similar this sneaker looks to the Hyper Crimson ones.
I expect resale for the Nike Space Hippie 01 Black Wheat to be somewhere between both these sneakers.

Just like its predecessors, the Nike Space Hippie 01 Black Wheat is constructed with 50% recycled materials including over 90% recycled polyester. Continuing Nike’s ‘Move to Zero’ initiative in their most progressive lineup yet.
With autumn arriving in a month or two, Nike shifts to a more suitable black and wheat color tone for this sneaker. The Nike Space Hippie 01 Wheat comes in a black knitted upper with a wheat colored stitched ‘Swoosh’.
The upper consists of recycled materials extracted from used plastic bottles and T-shirts. A black and white stitched lacing system and white stitching provides some contrast. Unlike its predecessors however, the sole comes in a light grey color constructed with a fusion of ZoomX foam and Nike Grind rubber. A Nike’s Sunburst logo on the heel tabs complete the design.

Resale Value
The Nike Space hippie 01 is one of the most profitable of the bunch. Not just because of the hype but also due to its low retail price of $130. Considering also that it’s a significantly different colorway, I’d say these will sell out super-fast.
To get your money back on StockX, after applying a standard US tax rate and service fee. You’ll need to sell the Nike Space Hippie 01 Black Wheat for at least $155. Thus by using my estimated resell value, expect net profits of around $75.
If you sell on eBay however, you’re looking at potential profits of $100 or more.
