Graphics cards have been one of the most sought after items this year, with gamers and cryptocurrency miners alike looking to get their hands on the top graphics cards. Due to the massive demand, the supply has not been able to keep up with it, therefore the market is being dominated by resellers looking to make some money from this crazy rush. Just like the top sneakers, when demand outweighs the supply, the resell price skyrockets.

Which graphics cards resell?

The top two brands for graphics cards are NVidia and AMD. The latest series for NVidia is the 3000 series, while the latest AMD series is the 6000 series. Both have had severe supply shortage since they were released late in 2020, as the cryptocurrency market was rising and gamers also wanted to get their hands on the latest tech. Due to this lack of supply, resellers took over the market just like the next-gen console market as there was easy money to be made. This led to StockX listing most of these top graphics cards on their site as they wanted a piece of the pie also. In reselling terms, the NVidia Founder̵7;s Edition 3000 series has had the best return on investment since release. I’ve managed to get my hands on some of the RTX 3080 Founder’s Edition cards myself, at retail price of $700 and have managed to sell them for over $1700 near the peak; a profit of $1000 per card, a percentage profit of over 140%. At one point, this specific card was fetching over $2500 on the resell market, over three times the retail price.

Can one bot graphics cards?

Not only Founder’s Edition cards have had great returns however, almost all types of these next gen graphics cards have had great profit margins since release. Sneaker botters have turned their interest from going after sneaker releases and instead going for these graphics cards releases on sites like Amazon, Walmart and BestBuy. Due to botting these graphics cards being significantly easier than botting hyped sneaker releases, many botters moved their focus to them increasing the lack of retail supply even more. Many new bots appeared targeting solely retail stores such as Amazon and Walmart as the demand increased more and more. Some of the top retail bots fetch prices of over $3000 now as more and more botters are jumping on this new wave of ‘retail botting’.

What is the success like amongst these ‘retail bots’?

Bot protection on retail sites such as Amazon has had to adapt over the past few months due to this surge in bot activity from people trying to snag the latest graphics cards. At the start, as there was so few bots running on these sites, success was incredibly high – and profit margins were also very high as it was only the beginning of this new wave of reselling. However, just like sneaker sites adapting new bot protection, the bots will almost always come out on top of this endless cat and mouse game. Graphics cards are vastly different to shoes also, in the way that they are constantly restocking the same models, compared to say a Jordan 1 release which is a one and done. Therefore, the demand will slowly wane as more and more regular consumers get their hands on their sought after graphics card. This has led to a steady decline in profit margins on the standard, non-Founder’s Edition graphics cards (which are much more limited than the standard cards). However the margins are still worthwhile, and many people are still botting graphics cards at the moment. Is it still worth botting/purchasing graphics cards to resell?

At the moment, yes, it is still worth purchasing certain graphics cards to resell. Make sure to check which model you are purchasing and what the resell is like on sites like StockX and eBay before buying, but most of the top cards still fetch great profit margins at this point in time. As the demand still outweighs the supply, there is still plenty of buyers looking to grab a graphics card even if it is on the secondary market, so the resell market is still there for now, and should remain for the forseeable future.
